2019 DISKYPELSHIP CLASSES

Picture
"This course has really helped me get a good look at whether my priorities were in line with Gods Word and will for my life. There was heaps of good content and it answered a lot of questions"
- DISKYPELSHIP Student

***REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN FOR TERM 1 2019!***

What are "DISKYPELSHIP" Classes?

DISKYPELSHIP classes (notice the play on words!) are classes offered online, using SKYPE (popular software that allows group video calling) . This allows homeschooling students to receive biblical teaching and instruction, without the limitations of location/distance. Eternal Purpose Ministries began the first DISKYPELSHIP classes in Term 1 of 2018, and the feedback has been great so far. With more interest in the classes from homeschooling families around NZ - we can now offer a broader range of classes (see class options on the right). Classes are available for students age 15-18 (please enquire if your child is just outside these ages).

Who are the classes suitable for?

The classes available for young men and young ladies, with some classes being specific to young men (see class options on the right).

How involved can the parents be?

It is a humbling honour and privilege to speak into the lives of your children, and something that is not taken lightly (James 3:1). Whilst the classes are aimed at the students, parental interaction is greatly encouraged. Some parents have wanted to sit in the same room while the classes run - this is completely fine - though we ask that parents not interrupt the classes. The concept of these classes is to supplement the teaching/discipleship these young people already receive at home. Having said that, we realise that the dynamics in every family are very different. For some families, this will provide content that their children wouldn't otherwise receive - for other families it will be additional. All emails sent to students will be sent to the parents email address also - and any assignments given that require watching a video on YouTube, or reading an article on the internet, are done so with the assumption that this will first be approved by the parents. Parents are welcome to contact Kris Baines anytime with any questions about the classes or content.

When do the classes take place and how long are they?

The classes take place at various times (see class options for more details) during weekdays, to allow parents to utilise the classes as part of their homeschool curriculum. The classes generally run for 60 minutes but may be up to 15 minutes longer to allow more time for questions/discussion.

What is the format of the classes?

Again this varies from class to class - but generally Kris will group call everyone in the class, and begin with prayer, and a recap of the previous week's class and assignments. We then move into the main topic for that week, which involves Kris teaching, with interaction, and questions along the way. Student are sometimes asked to read Scriptures, and comment, or answer questions via video or the text box on Skype. NOTE: For occasional weeks when Kris is out of town, students will be assigned a video or audio teaching to listen to, or another teacher will take those classes.

What additional work is required other than attending the class online?

Each week one or more assignments are set that relate to the class content. Please see Class #1 for a sample of this (all other classes are password protected for enrolled students). These assignments usually involve reading an article, watching or listening to a video/audio teaching, and completing an online study form after studying an assigned passage of Scripture. There will also be some preparation for the following weeks class such as reading an article, or watching/listening to a relevant message. In total, out of class assignments should not take more than 1-1.5 hours per week to complete. Optional further reading/study will be made available should the student desire to undertake this. NOTE: The "Verse by Verse Through..." Classes do not have required assignments.

What is the cost of the classes?

We really want to make these classes available to as many young people as we can, without cost being a hindrance. That said, we do have overheads to meet, and much time is taken in preparation, research, and conducting the classes. We may move to a more formal fee structure in the future, but at this stage we are only suggesting a donation (which qualify for the tax rebate as we are an official non-profit ministry). The suggested donation is $100 per student, per term (for 10 classes). If your family cannot afford this, please still sign up, and we trust the Lord to provide.

Who teaches the classes?

At this stage Kris Baines is primary tutor, but at various times may bring in others to teach a class, or contribute to the content. For more info on Kris, please see our ABOUT page.

This is a great question! Please see the class options for detailed content information. The aim of these classes is discipleship first and foremost. For this reason ALL content is biblically based, and revolves around detailed study of the Scriptures. The classes do not venture into pet-topics, or controversial issues, but centre around that which helps young people become solid, spiritually healthy, and fruitful followers of Christ. Kris serves as a pastor-elder at Redemption Church.
